Thinking about insomnia keeps me awake at night. At least something does – I’m not entirely sure what, but it best be important. I find it simultaneously amazing an vexing that a body deprived of sleep will further deprive itself by refusing to sleep for even longer. In the past week or two I’ve had more and more frequent opportunities to observe this phenomenon. Frankly, I’m baffled. I would have thought simply going to bed would solve the problem, but no. All that seems to accomplish is me tossing and turning for a couple of hours with my brain chattering away on a million topics before I eventually say “Sod it” and get up.

On the plus side when I do get up I have ample opportunity be productive and get things done – like this post, for example. the only problem is that my concentration isn’t at its best so actually getting things done – or expressing thoughts in writing coherently – is somewhat tricky. The other positive is that I’m seeing a lot of sunrises. On the negative side, it does play havoc with my daily routine, and it make me want to randomly capitalise words. I kid you not.

Maybe I’ll try a gulp of that elixir to try and rid myself of this sleeplessness. After all, he did say it would “cure anything”…
