Spore Creature Creator

Long time no blog, but bored now. The Spore Creature Creator Demo has been released to the wild. It is a trial which contains 25% of the goodness in the full creature creator which you will be able to purchase for $10. Seems like a bitchingly good way to make money to me, a lot of people will purchase this now and then the full game later in the year when it is finally released. I was a bit skeptical about buying it, it is just the creator after all, but after playing with it for a bit I am quite tempted!

It is great fun just starting randomly playing the spine, getting a weird shape then finding the best places for arms, legs, eyes, mouths and weapons. Then you can colour it in in loads of ways to suit it’s character. Then you can easily share your creation with others as the preview thumbnail png actually contains the info for the creature, so all you need is the png and you can play with the creature at your will!

Here are my creations so far:

None of them are particularly creative, it is just me mucking around at the moment. Searching the Internet you will find thousands of creations, some brilliant, some shit, and some childishly rude (refrained myself so far…). Give it a go and see what you can come up with.

Bf2s Returns!

After what seems like forever being down, the premium Battlefield 2 stats site is back up! I am quite excited, as it now means i can track every bullet fired and make sure I put all my effort into getting a little digital badge to say I have spent a long time playing a game!

See the HoG Leaderboard here, or go to the main bf2s page.

BF2, BF2, BF2…another update ;)

Just to keep you informed, the patch sticky post on the Battlefield 2 forums on the EA site, has been updated with some more info.

As I pretty much expected, there is some last minute news to pass along. There’s some good and some not so good news but, hopefully, the good outweighs the not so good.

First, I’ll start with the bad news to get it out of the way. We have held onto the 1.2 patch a little longer than we had initially planned. We really felt that it was important to delay the patch and take care of some of the issues that have had the community concerned. This means that it will be released sometime in the next two or three weeks. This, unfortunately, means that the Euro Force Booster Pack will be delayed as well since it relies on the patch. Look for Euro Force to be released in the latter half of February now.

Also, another bit of bad news is that the new feature that allows player to pick up deployed mines with the G key is being held back. In the end, we felt it just wasn’t complete enough for public consumption. We at DICE apologize to all of you who were eagerly awaiting this feature.

I hope that the reasons for the delays are seen as positive by you, the community, and therefore I list these reasons as the good news portion of this update.

The following issues were addressed:

– Being able to pass through walls using a spinning tank turret has been fixed. It has also been addressed on all rotating vehicle positions just to be safe.
– The disappearance of tank projectiles and grenade launcher projectiles during online play has been improved and should occur less frequently
– The distance for throwing hand grenades, ammo packs, and health packs has been increased.

And finally…

– The Red/Blue nametag bug has been addressed

Regarding the last point, what we have done is make the code more secure to try and prevent any cases where this bug may occur. Since the fix has been in place, we have had no reproduction of the bug in testing.

We’re excited about being able to release 1.2 very soon and hope you all are too.

Ain’t a big update, just to say it will be a few weeks before it will arrive, and that Euro Force will be delayed because of it (fixed game = more booster packs sold = happy happy me). The spinning tank buig Bobby posted a few days ago has been fixed, and its good to see you can throw the packs and grenades further, since you can’t jump and throw them anymore. Also nice to see the red/blue nametag thing seems to be under control, although I haven’t encountered it in a long time.

You shall be keep up to date on BF2, if nothing else, on this blog 😉

For Sale: One BF2 Account, Slightly Used, One Previous pwnz0r

Now, before you all start thinking this is turning into a BF2 blog, I have to say that the next patch is rumoured to have a release date as early as Febuary 1st (or at least sometime soon), so the news for it has been coming thick and fast. Anyway, to the topic at hand…

Contrary to the slightly misleading title, I’m not selling my BF2 account. For one, I’d never part with the nom de guerre BertieBaggio without a fight, unless I had a reason never to play again. Secondly, I’ve put around 200 hours of my life into it which I’m never going to get back, so I reckon I should at least hang onto the product. However, other people have different principles…

BF2 Exploits Now On Google Video

Information for the masses is what Google provides. Or at least a way of searching through it. Now we have them to thank for sharing this info with us: tank exploits 🙁 The video shows enough for a BF2 player to recognize an exploiter, so hopefully this will clue up some clueless admins and give people a chance to get some evidence to report those taking advantage of the bug.

Yet another BF2 update!

This is another quick update from the BF2 community pages about the recent patch/booster pack. See the other posts for a compelte list of what has been changed, but here are a few more things:

Here’s a list of additional items to look for in version 1.2:

  • UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it.
  • Rank progression is no longer limited to the enlisted ranks. All officer ranks are now available.
  • Bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion stemming from our updates.

The first item is on the topic of grenades. Players will still be able to toss grenades while jumping. Although the ability to fire while jumping has been removed, players will still be able to initiate a grenade toss prior to jumping and follow through with the toss, thereby gaining themselves some extra distance. We understand that there will be some adjustment in tactics required when the patch comes out but we are confident that the community will quickly come to grips with the new tactics.

The second item is on the topic of the booster packs. We have not created the maps as a separate expansion pack requiring a separate server. The booster packs will increase the content of the base game and thereby may be run on a server in regular rotation with the original maps.

Hopefully this clears up any issues you might have had with any of the updates.

2 videos released for Battlefield 1.2 patch

Well, it seems we have more proof that the changes to Battlefield 2 in the 1.2 are for real, and that UAVs can (unfortunately) be shot down. Videos released from PlanetBattlefield and BF2.se show the UAV (and other features) in action.

Edit: Kenny found us some video footage of the new unlocks in action

Edit #2: Alpha Test summary from BF2.se
